Community Service

When I take on responsibility, I learn how to be reliable, to put myself in the shoes of another and to forego my own personal desires for a time. Every student from grades 8-10 commits to a particular form of community service for one whole academic year. All other students are, of course, encouraged to apply for community service posts. Community service can replace a workshop, but not evening athletics.

Community service refers to any activity that is beneficial to the Landheim community as a whole. This might include, for example, serving as an assistant coach on an athletic team, working as a lifeguard or break monitor, supporting the maintenance staff, helping out at the school snack bar, or providing free tutoring for younger students. Serving as a mentor is also an important contribution to the community. Off-campus community service, in cooperation with a charitable organization, also fulfills the school’s service requirement.

Round Square International offers older students the challenge of actively getting involved on behalf others through Round Square International Service (RSIS) projects worldwide.

"I found new role models at Landheim - a key experience."
