4. First place at the ISEF - the world's largest Mint student competition

Julia and Alexander Trapp were very successful with a 4th place worldwide at the world's largest STEM student competition, the International Science and Engineering Fair 2024 (ISEF) in Los Angeles.

The success story of the Trapp siblings, which we reported on repeatedly in the Thursday Info during the past school year as they made their way to the successful national competition of ‘Jugend forscht’ in May 2023, continued in the current school year: Julia (16 years old, 10th grade) and Alexander (19 years old, 12th grade) qualified as finalists in the world's largest STEM student competition, ISEF, where they competed with their project against over 1,700 scientists from 67 countries, the respective winners of their national competitions. The focus of their STEM project, which had been continuously developed over the past year, was the construction of an environmentally friendly redox flow battery. They participated in ISEF with a further stage of development of this project. At the end of a week full of intensive jury discussions and unforgettable experiences, Julia and Alexander were delighted to receive a Grand Award, coming in 4th place in the field of chemistry!

"The renewed success of the Jugend forscht award winners at an international level shows once again that we have high-performing and competitive young researchers in Germany. Taking part in the ISEF in the USA is a formative experience that the young STEM talents will remember for the rest of their lives!" (Katarina Keck, Director of Jugend forscht)

A total of 6 teams with 15 participants from Germany qualified for the competition.
