Performance through belonging.
About the Landheim.
Foundation & History
Founded out of conviction, grown over generations.
Founding of the Landheim
In 1905, Julius Lohmann would probably never have dreamed how the founding of his small private boarding school on the outskirts of the fishing village of Schondorf would develop to the present day. With his slogan "Do it yourself", he summarised in typically short and direct Bavarian dialect that he was essentially concerned with educating young people to take responsibility for themselves.
Character development and values education
Education is much more than academic lessons in a classroom: the courage to take responsibility, the right to gain one's own experience, e.g. in the workshop programme, and not to lose touch with practical experience in the community alongside a challenging academic education are still the fundamental goals of the Landheim today. On the way there, however, other values are lived and visions realised that are essential for life in a community and for young people who want to achieve something: helpfulness, respect, justice, honesty, openness and responsibility.
Head, heart and hand
With this in mind, the various facilities at Landheim are geared towards the character development mentioned above: through a pedagogically well-thought-out combination of academic teaching, physical and social work in the various workshop programmes, intensive and professional sports, and personal experience with art, theatre and music. Learning with head, heart and hand.
Establishment of the foundation
Julius Lohmann's successors, Ernst and Julie Reisinger, immediately took up his vision. With the selfless transfer of their private assets, they converted the Landheim into a foundation in 1929, thus presciently protecting it from nationalisation by the National Socialists.
... It should remain a living organism at all times, easily adapting to emerging needs, not stubbornly clinging to outdated forms, and seeking the best form of education in ever-renewed efforts, independent of parties and ideologies ...

Future
For tomorrow's leaders.
It is rare to find such a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity as at Landheim Ammersee. What was established as a principle by forward-thinking individuals when the foundation was established in 1929 has been adapted over the years to meet the current needs of the school – always with the aim of providing the best possible education. It is a concept that continues to work today.
Innovations
Valuing traditions that enrich community life is not incompatible with innovation. It goes without saying that we equip our classrooms with all the latest technical innovations that are useful and state of the art. AI in the classroom, yes; smartphones at community events, no.
Traditions do not prevent us from being open to new influences and ways of learning. Our traditional institutions, such as morning assemblies and quiet hours, are intended to offer students sufficient retreat and support to better absorb and process the immense flow of information in our modern age.
Foundation management
The foundation director represents the foundation internally and externally and, in accordance with the statutes, is the driving force behind the entire foundation. The director of the foundation is Rüdiger Häusler. The deputy foundation director is Matthias Bangert.
A workplace with a lake (and soul)
Founded in 1905, Das Landheim is not only one of Germany's most traditional boarding schools – it is also a very attractive workplace for its current staff of around 120 employees.
What others write about us.
The innovative teaching methods at Landheim attract interest far beyond our region. Many events at Landheim are of interest not only to us, but also to the press – and perhaps to you as well.
Once a Landheimer, always a Landheimer.
Since its foundation in 1920, the Altlandheimerbund (ALB) has stood for a vibrant Landheim community, because ‘once a Landheimer, always a Landheimer’, even after your active time at Landheim. Membership is therefore open to both former students and former employees.
Expressing solidarity
Supporting means giving the gift of a future: donations help spaces, ideas and projects to grow – scholarships help young people to surpass themselves.
